Set of Four Carved Mugs in Soft Speckle

£142.00

Wood-fired

Set of Four Mugs

Its unusual in the world of wood-firing to have sets as often the pots are all just that little bit different, but in this firing, the kiln gods offered a rare occurance for a set of four mugs. These have a lovely tactile carved exterior and make a perfect coffee or tea set.

Each mug is thrown on my wheel before adding a traditional hand-pulled handle which is shaped and fitted to each individual mug.

Glazed in my lovely soft off white speckled with the gentle flecks from the ash and iron from the clay.

All wood-fired pieces are completely unique and individual due the firing process - so its quite unusual to have a set of four mugs to offer.

H – 8 cm D – 8.5 cm approx.

Wood-firing is traditional process that is now only used by a few potters. It’s a labour of love as each firing take days loading and firing with a team stocking to reaching a temperature of 1280’C. Ash circulates the kiln landing on pots to create beautiful speckles, flames create rich colours and earthy toasted finishes. Each pot is balanced on clay packed sea-shells to stop them sticking to the kiln shelf, the shells leave beautiful marks and imprints on the base.

Whilst its fraught with uncertainty, it’s worth the extra effort for the beautiful unique pots that emerge, each a little different … just the way handmade pieces should be.

All my pottery is dishwasher safe but I recommend hand washing.
