Large Serving Dish No.2
Wood-fired
A brand new designed serving dish with a slightly flared rim which I am super excited to add to my collection.. These make the perfect serving dishes or equally could serve a delicious pie.
This one has the most beautiful gentle details and depth of glaze where the ash has interated with it over the 36 hour long wood-firing. The process has created darker tones where the glaze breaks over the edges alongside the paler tones and surface.
Its rich earthy colours will complement any table as a centre piece or sitting amongst the rest of your tableware. Each one is hand-thrown and finished with a soft spiral detail.
Glazed in my Lichen glaze combining beautifully varied shades from pale creams through to greens and ochres against a raw unglazed exterior of toasted natural hues.
All wood-fired pieces are completely unique and individual due the firing process - no two pots will ever be the same.
30cm w x 5cm h approx
Wood-firing is traditional process that is now only used by a few potters. It’s a labour of love as each firing take days loading and firing with a team stocking to reaching a temperature of 1280’C. Ash circulates the kiln landing on pots to create beautiful speckles, flames create rich colours and earthy toasted finishes. Each pot is balanced on clay packed sea-shells to stop them sticking to the kiln shelf, the shells leave beautiful marks and imprints on the base.
Whilst its fraught with uncertainty, its worth the extra effort for the beautiful unique pots that emerge, each a little different … just the way handmade pieces should be.
